The Deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), also Member of Parliament for Nwoya County, Mr Richard Todwong, has said that NRM is not competing with opposition, but instead with individuals.
Mr Todwong made the remarks while briefing the media in Gulu Town over the weekend saying the opposition is instead trading insults among themselves.
“The more opposition gets disorganized, the more we are getting stronger as NRM party. There is no solid opposition that we are competing with, we are instead competing with individuals,” he said.
There has been brewing struggle for power in Uganda People’s Congress, with a section of Some UPC members, accusing its President, Dr Olara Otunnu of failing to move the party forward.
In March this year, MDr Otunnu, made a pronouncement that he will notseek for another term as UPC party President.
In the Democratic Party-DP, since Mr Norbert Mao became the Party President, there has been a faction that has never supported him in his tenure in office.
At the moment Mr Mao is ill at International Hospital in Kampala and is out of office after doctors advised him to take a rest.
Mr Mao left Mr Mathias Nsubuga, DP secretary General to run the party affairs and urged all contenders for the party’s presidency to adhere to the provisions of the party
Recently, NRM vice chairman for Northern region and Erute North MP Sam Engola, said NRM had few genuine supporters in the region.
Mr Engola was responding to Aswa County MP Reagan Okumu’s allegations that NRM supporters in Gulu District masquerade as party loyalists but believe in Opposition ideologies.
