Bosmic Joyce Otim, a popular musician in northern Uganda has dismissed reports linking him to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Otim said those who have seen him wearing either yellow T-shirt (NRM colour) or blue (FDC colour) should not mistake him for being NRM or FDC
Otim says he is a businessman who associates with any political party for business reasons.
He says if any politician approaches him to compose a campaign song, he will do it because he earns a living from his music skills.
Otim has composed dozens of songs for local politicians from the ruling party camp and the opposition.
His biggest was the ‘Mzee Wa Kazi,’ a song to popularise President Museveni for which he claims he should have been paid 200 million shillings. He composed the song in 2006 but to date he has not yet been paid the money. Otim alleges that in 2006, he was approached by Brig Charles Otema Awany to compose a song to highlight Museveni’s achievements in the region, where NRM party had little support at the time.
He claims to have received only 500,000 shillings as down payment to facilitate recording of the song. Recently, he released a new song titled ‘Obstacles’ in which he criticises a section of NRM party leaders in Acholi for blocking him in his quest to meet the President.
