Market Vendors at Pader main market are demanding for a modern new that can accommodate more people.
The vendors made the demand to the district Chairman Alfred Akena on Sunday during a thanks giving function at the Pader main market. The demand was made by the Chairperson of the Pader main market association, Night Akello.
Akello said that the current temporary structures at the market are dilapidated and cannot be compared to other areas like Patongo and Kalongo markets in nearby Agago district.
Akello added that the market also lacks proper storage facilities, which she says puts the vendors’ at the mercy of thieves who have on several occasions broken into kiosks and stolen merchandise. She appealed to the district authorities to in the meantime fence off the market.
In response, Pader district LCV chairman, Alfred Akena said that the responsibility of building a market is with the town council.
Akena pledged to lobby from development partners for funds to construct a modern market in Pader district.
Akena applauded the vendors for being united and maintaining harmony saying unity encourages development.
Pader main market currently accommodates between 500-1000 vendors.
