Gulu woman Member Of Parliament Betty Aol Ocan has registered an assault case against NRM party supporters after a violent incident last week at Aketket Primary School playgrounds in Omoro County, Gulu district.
Aol registered the case on Tuesday last week at Lalogi police post under police reference number SD/08/22/12/2015. Aswa region police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed on Monday that Aol had indeed lodged a case with the police. Okema however said the legislator had made no any statement in regards to the assault case she reported.
There was chaos last week at Aket-ket Primary School, Lalogi Sub County, Gulu district involving the supporters of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and area member of parliament Jacob Oulanyah and those of FDC Presidential Candidate Dr Kizza Besigye.
Trouble started when Aol made a stopover at Aketket Primary School to find Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah already addressing his supporters there.
Aol is said to have asked the supporters of the Deputy Speaker to leave the venue since it was designated for the FDC and since at the time campaigns for parliamentary seats had been suspended by the electoral comission till December 23. A scuffle broke out in which Aol alleges that she was manhandled by Oulanyah’s guards. Oulanyah denies the allegations and accuses Aol of provoking his small group of NRM supporters.
Ben Acellam, Oulanyah’s campaign manager also blamed Aol for the scuffle saying Oulanyah was briefing his campaign team on how to observe discipline during the campaign period.
Acellam claim Besigye was supposed to address a rally at Acet Trading Center, some 10kms away but not at Aketket Primary School playgrounds as alleged by the Gulu Woman MP.
