Three people died while another three were injured in separate incidents in Gulu and Amuru districts on Christmas eve, police has said.
Aswa region police spokesperson, Jimmy Patrick Okema told Acholi Times on Saturday that the deaths were a result of suicide, a hit and run accident and domestic violence.
The dead, according to police included, Ronald Opiyo 17, a resident of Paicho sub-county in Gulu district who committed suicide after a picking quarrel with his father.
The others included Rofina Adong 61, a resident Omel village in Paicho sub-county, who succumbed to kidney rapture after being beaten by her husband in a domestic brawl, and Robert Auka, 30 a resident of Amuru district who died after being knocked by a speeding motorcycle.
Mr Auka was knocked along with another unidentified person at Juka Village, Apaa parish in Pabbo sub-county. The unidentified person is admitted at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu in critical condition.
Police spokesperson, Jimmy Patrick Okema said that police responded to all the incidents adding that a suspect has been arrested in the murder of the 61 years old woman.
Okema identified the suspect as Mathew Otim 61. He is expected to be produced in court today (Monday) to be charged with murder.
“We are still pursuing the suspect who hit two people with a motorcycle,” Okema said.
He however said no arrests were made during the Christmas period in the Acholi sub region as people peace enjoyed their Christmas.
Meanwhile three people have been hospitalized at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu district after a government vehicle they were traveling in overturned several times at Parabongo trading center along Gulu-Juba highway on Christmas day.The vehicle registration number UG0112Z has been towed to Gulu central police station. Police blamed the accident on over speeding by the driver.
