Gulu district is set to immunize girls between the age of 9 to 13 years against cervical cancer.
Celestino Ojok, the Gulu district Health Educator said the district has received 4,600 doses of Human Papillo Virus vaccines (HPV vaccines) from the Ministry of Health.
Ojok said the vaccines were delivered to Gulu in late December and that registration of beneficiaries is ongoing at all health facilities in the district starting from Health Centre II. He further said that the immunisation is targeting girls at the average age of because at that age, a female child is not yet be sexually active.
School going children will be registered from their schools, according to Ojok.
“These vaccines arrived at a time when the school term had closed. Since registration is ongoing and will be continuous, school children will be registered from school when the term begins and we will target especially girls in Primary Four,” he said.
He urged women to do routine screening so that when infection is detected at an early stage, it can be treated and managed.
The health education officer said the distribution of the cancer vaccine should have started this week.
“We hope supply of these vaccines will continue so that every girl who reaches this age group99-10) can be protected from cancer of the cervix in future. We call upon every parent to bring their young girls for immunization to avoid unnecessary death which can be prevented,” he stressed.

This is just too bad. It means whatever information is being given to you people, the (district officials) do not pay any attention to it. I wish no mother registers her daughter to receive this misguided HPV drugs. Any vaccination drugs coming from abroad should be treated with skepticism.
HPV vaccine is still a trial drug, countries like Japan and Other European has stop using the drug because of its adverse side effects. It’s so painful to see that Acholi district officials are burying their heads under their legs and cant see woods from the trees. Free things are the most expensive.
Wa awene ka wang wu obiyabe ni ki tye ka tic kwed wu calo guinea pigs?
In Scotland there were three girls, one rejected the HPV vaccine and the other two friends decided to take the drug. The two ended up in the emergency in ambulance whereby one became disabled on a wheelchair and the other died of cancer which should have been prevented by the vaccine. The one who rejected the vaccine is alive and well but lost her friends cos of the HPV vaccine.

Please let the parents know the side effects of what their daughters are going to be subjected to before they stupidly sign the forms.
