Opposition Forum for Democratic Change candidate for Nwoya County Simon Oyet has been declared winner with 8187 votes beating off a six challengers. Oyet will take over from Richard Todwong of the ruling National Resistance Movement(NRM). Todwong did not defend his seat as he was appointed Deputy Secretary General of the ruling NRM, a full time position.
Sunday Opio Ahmed of the NRM came second to Oyet with 4,540 votes, followed by Tony Awany( Independent) with 4390 votes. Geoffrey Okello, also independent candidate came fourth with 3017 votes. Martin Okumu(independent) followed with 1452 votes. Zeru Abukha also (independent) got898 votes.
Oyet reclaims back his seat that was snatched from him in the 2011 elections by NRM’s Richard Todwong.
The FDC party has generally done well in the Acholi sub region.
