Unknown gunmen on Wednesday night shot dead one a resident of Cet Cana village, Bungatira Sub County in Gulu district.
The incident happened at around 10 pm at a local bar in the village.
The dead man was identified by police as Robert Okello, 21.
‘‘Their desire was to kill since they [the gun] men did not rob anything,’’ said Bungatira sub county LC5 Councilor, Amos Lakidi.
Mr Lakidi said the gunmen are suspected to have ben two in number.
‘‘It appears they were two gun men based on the number of shots they were being fired. It appears to have been coming from two guns,’’ Mr Lakidi told Acholi Times on Friday.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa region police spokesperson confirmed the incident and said a case of murder by shooting has been registered under CRB2485/2016 at Gulu Central Police.
The police spokesman said investigations into the shooting had commenced.
Shootings have lately become common in Gulu.
On August 19, a man identified as William Ojok was shot dead by unknown armed men in Bobi trading centre in Gulu districts.
On August 21, Isaiah Okidi, a lecturer of Gulu University was shot dead by a security guard attached to Security Group Africa (SGA) who was guarding DFCU bank in Gulu town.
