A mob Tuesday morning lynched two suspected thieves in Gulu municipality.
The thugs, according to eye witness accounts, are suspected to have stolen a motorcycle.
The lynched thugs have been identified as Felix Bongomin and another only as Sunday, all said to be residents of Layibi Railway in Layibi Division, Gulu municipality.
An eye witness who did not want to be revealed told Acholi Times that the suspected thugs were found in possession of parts of a motorcycle belonging to a Boda- Boda rider (motorcycle taxi) who had been killed some years ago. Acholi Times could not independently verify this claim.
The suspected thugs were netted by a mob from Go-Down parish in Layibi and led to Tegwana where they [the suspects] claim to have hidden other motorcycles they had stolen before.
A Boda- Boda who witnessed happenings said the suspects failed to locate the motorcycles on arrival at Te- Gwana, in Gulu town suburb, prompting the mob to hit the suspects with clubs, stones and set them ablaze with the aid of petrol.
Mrs. Rose Alunyu, the Te- Gwana Chairperson said the incident happened this morning at 7am. Alunyu said she called the police when she heard a crowd shouting but the police did not turn up immediately at the scene.
She said the dead suspects were not residents of her area.
Police turned up much later to and took the body of the suspects to the Gulu regional Referral Hospital mortuary.
The lynching follows increased cases of night attacks on Gulu town residents and Boda- Boda operators.
