John Baptist Odama, the Archbishop of Gulu Archdiocese has advised Ugandans to desist from being lured to fight the government.
Odama said such a move would plunge the country in chaos.
Without stating names, Odama said there are leaders who confuse the masses for their own interests.
“You citizens, don’t allow your selves to be put into disarrays or asked to fight, say no when you asked to fight… and you all leaders, don’t land your country into problems because of your own interest, “ Odama said.
He made the remarks in his Christmas sermon at St Joseph’s Cathedral in Gulu municipality.
The Bishop said violent approaches to address grievances do cause more harm than good saying the best approach is to dialogue.
“Why should we go for violence yet we have the brain to think and our mouth to talk?” the Bishop asked the congregation.
He also condemned the killings in Kasese District where more than 100 people mostly royal guards of Rwenzuru King Wesley Charles Mumbere were killed last month.
“What happened in Kasese district was not good, human beings killing fellow human beings wasn’t something good at all.’’
Sppeaking of the wave of crimes that has hit Gulu Municipality in the recent months, Bishop Odama described as heartless those involved in the crime.
“I am not happy to hear what is happening in Gulu district, these people hitting their fellow human being instead of saving them is heartless. They should follow the way of Christ who advocates for unity and love.”
Two people of recent have been left dead and scores others injured after being hit by criminals commonly referred to as ‘‘iron bar hitmen.’’
Odama called for unity among Ugandans saying it’s a necessity for a stable country.
