Former commissioner in the ministry of education Francis Uma Agula has been eulgoised as a mentor and honest man who was passionate about education.
The late Agula, 63, died on May 25 at Gulu Independent Hospital where he had been taken to be treatment for malaria.
Andrew Anderson Tanga, a former secretary for education at Gulu Municipal Council described the late Agula as a skillful person who devoted his time in promoting education in the country.
Jose Jola Acire, the Gulu Municipal Education Officer who succeeded Uma in 2000 said he was heartbroken by Agula’s death, describing the deceased as a mentor and brother to him.
Mr Acire said Agula was committed and vibrant educator who rose from the classroom to Commissioner in the Ministry of Education.
The Headteacher Sacred Heart Senior School Gulu, Harriet Lamunu asked the younger generation to emulate Agula.
John Okwonga, the Speaker Gulu District Council told mourners at council meeting that a road will be named after Agula to honour him. Okwonga also revealed that the portrait of Agula will be hanged on the wall of fame at Gulu District Council Hall.
The late Agula was survived by two widows, seven children and 42 grandchildren.
He was laid to rest on Saturday at his home in Laliya, Bungatira Sub County in Gulu district
