Acholi religious leaders under their umbrella Religious Leaders Peace Initiative (ARLPI) yesterday met their counterparts in Adjumani to discuss the fallout from Apaa, a chunk of land at the border between Amuru and Adjumani claimed by both sides.
The meeting was held at the Adjumani Multipurpose Hall in Adjumani town council.
The Acholi religious leaders were led by their Chairperson, the Arch Bishop of Gulu diocese
John Baptist Odama while their counterparts in Adjumani were led by Mosinya Beriza Ogura, the episcopal vicar for Moyo and Adjumani and the parish priest for Kureke.
In his opening remarks Arch Bishop Odama said the meeting aimed at finding lasting solutions to the conflict in Apaa which threatens the relationship between the Madi and Acholi.
Odama asked the religious leaders to be the voice of peace and reconciliation between the two tribes and to denounce evil.
He also told the religious leaders to direct political leaders to be leaders of the people and respect dignity of humankind
Episcopal vicar Mosinya said he was hopeful that the meeting of the religious leaders would contribute to the search for a long lasting solution to the Apaa conflict.
The religious leaders were expected to pay a visit to locals from the Madi side displaced by the conflict over Apaa and now staying at Juka Central Primary school.
Conflict over Apaa recently led to the death of nine, leaving several others injured and displacing hundreds of people in both Amuru and Adjumani district.
