Opposition leader Aol Betty Ocan is today expected to lead a team of opposition members of parliament on a fact- finding mission to Apaa, the contentious area claimed by both Amuru and Adjumani residents.
Mrs Ocan told Acholi Times last evening that she will lead a team of eight opposition members of parliament following increased violence over Apaa pitting the Acholi and Madi communities.
”We want to go to Apaa and see and come up with our own report and recommendations,” Ochan said yesterday evening.
The Opposition leader will be accompanied by newly elected Acholi Parliamentary Group(APG) Chair, Phillip Okin who is also Chua county member of parliament in Kitgum district. Other MPs on the team include Opposition Chief Whip Ssemuju Ibragim Nganda, Aciro Lucy and Lucy Akello, among others.
Since 2012 Apaa has been a hotbed of conflict between the Acholi and Madi community over an estimated 40 square miles of fertile land that both communities claim.
There is an ongoing attempt headed by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda to peacefully resolve the conflict over Apaa.
President Museveni is expected to visit the area in the near future, according to reports.
