A DNA test has cleared John Okwonga, the Gulu District Speaker who had been accused of defiling and impregnating his 14- year old niece.
The test was carried out to find the paternity of the unborn child.
On May 30, 2019, the girl accused the Gulu Speaker of sexually assaulting her when she visited him at his house.
Okwonga has consistently and vigorously denied the allegations. He was now been cleared a DNA test results released by police on Tuesday.
The test, according to police, found Okwonga not responsible for the unborn child.
The test dated June 28, 2019 was conducted by MBN Clinical Laboratories in Kampala. It was done by Dr Freddie Bwanga and Moses Okwonga.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson confirmed told the press Tuesday that the DNA had cleared Okwonga allegations of aggravated defilement.
The police is now following a new lead which involves a second suspect, Okema said.
