Two Police Officers attached to Paicho Police Station in Paicho Sub –County Gulu district were on Tuesday morning beaten to coma while on duty.
The officers have been identified as Andrew Mulyamboga, the Officer-in-charge of the station and Edmond Menya, Officer in –charge of criminal investigations.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson said the incident happened at around 9am when the officers responded to a reported case of simple robbery of a vehicle registration number UAU 327E belonging to one, Moses Kato, a resident of Gulu East Division. Case of a stolen vehicle had been reported to Paicho Police Station under SD 04/14/07/2020.
Okema revealed when the officers intervened, they were beaten to coma and in the process a riffle No. UGPOL 56-31002043-1583 with 29 rounds of ammunition was robbed from them.
The two police officers were rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital where they are getting treatment. The gun and ammunition was later recovered, and the suspects arrested and detained at Gulu Central Police Station.
The suspects have been identified as Robert Opiyo, 38, John Bosco Okumu, 52, Paul Ongom, 27, Denish Obur, 31, Patrick Ojara, 22 and Patrick Rachkara aged 27, all are residents of Kiceke Village, Kal –Umu Parish, Paicho Sub –County in Gulu district.
They have been charged with attempted murder and robbery.
