A fire on Saturday evening brought down the ceiling board of the Gulu University library.
The fire is suspected to have been triggered when electricity got back. A security guard at the university said he saw smoke from the ceiling board of the main library a few seconds when electricity came back.
The fire was put off by the police fire brigade before it could cause any serious damage, according to James Ojok Onono, the Gulu University Assistant Public Relations Officer.
”The night guards and the Uganda Police were quick to respond,’’ said Onono who revealed that the guards fought the fire with extinguishers before the fire brigade arrived.
“Only a bit of the ceiling board got burnt but the entire library is safe,’’ added Onono.
The Gulu University Main Library located at the main campus can be used by over 300 students at a go and also has a section for research and computers.
