Gulu Archdiocese has lost another Comboni Samaritan to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Brother Elio Crocesuccumbed to the virus on Wednesday evening from Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala from where he was receiving treatment.
Elio becomes the third priest from Gulu Archdiocese to die of COVID-19 in a space of less than one month. The others are Brother Benito Ricci, the former Diocesan Treasurer for the Archdiocese of Gulu and Father Jesus Aranda Nava who worked at Palorinya Refugee Camp in Moyo district. The two passed on last week from St Mary`s Hospital Lacor in Gulu where they had been admitted.
Josephine Anying, the Lacor Hospital Communication Officer said on Thursday that Elio was admitted in Mulago Hospital after contracting the disease.
Anying described Brother Elios death as a great loss to the hospital.
Elio was a Comboni Missionary who started working at Lacor Hospital in 1985 and was in charge of the Technical Department of the Hospital.
He was behind the architectural works and construction of St Daniel Comboni Chapel Lacor and taking care of orphaned children at St Jude Orphanage Centre under the Gulu Archdiocese.
He also participated in building, carpentry works and welding while at the hospital. He akso documented the life of ‘night commuters’ at Lacor Hospital in 1996/7 during the peak of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in Northern Uganda.
