Richardson Tabu, a Senior Supervisor at the Electoral Commission (EC) In-Charge of Pece- Laroo Division in Gulu City who went missing over two weeks ago has been found dead in a forest in the outskirt of Gulu City.

Tabu was reportedly kidnapped by unknown persons on January 8, 2021, shortly after he left office. The EC’s office is located along upper Churchill Drive in Senior Quarters, Gulu City.

He went missing just barely three days as Ugandans prepared go to polls to elect a President and Members of Parliament.

According to reports, Tabu went missing on January 8, 2021 after he left the Electoral Commission (EC) offices located in Senior Quarters to go and buy food for fellow staff.

A case of disappearance was registered at Gulu Central Police Station under SD number 23/09/01/2021.

On January 15, 2021, his badly decomposed body was found in Forest ward, just 500 metres from his office.

Preliminary police investigation indicates that an empty bottle of Carbofuran, one of the most toxic carbamate pesticides was found lying beside him. Traces of the chemical was also reportedly found in his blood system.

Grace Davis Pande, the Officer-In -Charge of Criminal Investigations Department at Gulu Central Police Station said the chemical also destroyed the victim’s vital organs. It is however not clear if he ingested the chemical to end his life.

No single suspect has been arrested in connection to the death of Tabu.
