Rakas

Rakas is a fascinating artist who is developing his own unique approach to the world of music. His vibrant and powerful voice rings with sincere devotion to what he does. He is a versatile performer, interpreting everything from Acholi culture to western style music, with just the right degree of exquisite expression. Acholi Times entertainment correspondent Eunice Lamunu caught up with him for a chat.

Question: Raskas, thank you for your time and talking to Acholi Times. Is Rakas your real name?

 

My real names are Ogen Cheff

Question: How did the Name Rakas come about then?

It was just a nick name from my friends, I got used to it and decided to use it as a stage name.

Question: What were your dreams as a child?

I wanted to be a musician and actor from the very beginning, because I wanted to entertain people.

Question: - How did you begin your singing career?

I began though Church choirs. I enjoyed it so much and I appreciate the fact that it gave me a platform to begin my singing career.

Question: What led you to become an entertainer/musician?

The love of entertaining others is what drove me into becoming an entertainer, It’s always been my dream to be an entertainer and I just knew that I had it in me.

Question: Do you get nervous before a show?

Most definitely, everybody does because every show is different and the crowds are also different.

Question: What has been your greatest moment when it comes to your career?

My greatest moment has been the production of my singles, because it has created my fan base and it has opened new avenues for me to continue doing what I am doing.

Question: which of your many songs is your favorite? Why

My favorite song is DANO, because it attacks my detractors and nemesis directly.

Question: What support have you had over the years and from whom?

I have relied mainly on my family and confidence, but overall my support has from fans who enjoy what I do and so encourage me.

Question: What advise would you give to anyone who wants to get into the entertainment business?

Just be strong and always keep your head held high but watch out for rogue elements too, they are many in trade, just like in politics.

Question: If you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

DOLLY PARTON because her songs and voice have always been an inspiration to many around the world.

Question: what do you have in the pipe line?

There are a number of projects on the way and also hits that I am yet to release, you will know it when the time is right. The music industry in Acholi is growing and through music, we have been able to uplift the lives of so many, and am sure through enough support, it will do even more.
