Pretty B

There is a growing number of talented musicians in Acholi today and Acaa Beatrice, aka Pretty B is one such talent. Eunice Lamuno caught up with her to about her life, work and future plans. Acaa Beatrice, is young, focused and has a strong sense of humor. She talked to Acholi Times about her family and music.

Born in a family of six, Beatrice commonly known as “Pretty B”, unlike other girls is very open about her age; she was born on the 17th July, 1989 in Gulu, Uganda. “I lost my mum when I was still a little girl, so I was raised by my big sister, Pretty tells Acholi Times.

Pretty spent part of her early years in Kampala and she is currently studying at the Janan Luwum Secondary School. She is preparing to sit her A- Level Examinations. She however does not talk much about her other siblings.

Pretty discovered her talent when she was approached by one of her friends who happened to be a musician and was asked to feature in one of the productions; because a female voice was needed in the song. “I did not know that I could sing but I was amazed at how my voice was loved by other people, since then I have not look back, I sung in the group for some time then later I decided to start singing alone.” says Pretty.

“Since I was going solo, I decided to come up with a stage name, so I called myself, “Pretty” In memory of my mum because she used to call me ‘Pretty’. I recorded my first song in 2008 and it was called ‘Iyomo Cwinya’, the song received a good audience and was well received; that encouraged me to record more, I do not have an album yet, but I hope to make one in the near future.”

“Each of us has an inner drive to do what we do and at times we need motivation,” Pretty B tells AT, “my motivation are my fans, the love they show for my Music gives me courage to continue working hard.”

When asked about her fears in life, Pretty says she has no fears in life and she is always ready to face anything that comes her way. She has not yet faced any serious challenges in her music career because she is doing it for fun. “I put much of my effort and concentration on my studies.”
