The Acholi Paramount Chief, Rwot David Onen Acana II, is set to meet with traditional leaders (chiefs), districts officials, and elders from the Acholi sub region in a bid to amplify the spotlight on the nodding disease that continues to ravage the Acholi sub region.
Mr. Kenneth Oketta, the Prime Minister of Acholi chiefdom, stated to Acholi Times on Tuesday that his highness will start his program from Lamwo district in Palabek Kal sub county, where he is expected to meet Palabek Clan Chief , Rwot Vincent Kinyera, and all the other chiefs, district officials, and elders over the nodding disease epidemic.
Then he will travel to Kitgum district to hold a meeting with elders and district officials in Labongo Amida at the Cultural Palace (Gang Kal) of Chief Sisto Otika
Oketta revealed that his highness will then proceed to Pader, where he is expected to spend two days in discussions with elders and district officials.
“He is going to stage the meeting in Pajule for a day; because he will also be visiting nodding victims at Atanga Health centre III and he will go back and meet the district officials in Pajule before he proceeds to Agago,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Agago district, Acana is also expected to talk to elders on the issue of the land conflicts that have become common place in the district.
It is the first time the Acholi chiefdom is traversing the entire sub region to meet with local leaders in an effort to avert a dire situation. On this occasion it is to target the nodding disease which threatens to wipe out an entire generation of Acholi children.
