The High court in Gulu on Friday sentenced a 19-year-old man to 14 years in jail for aggravated defilement.

Bosco Ocan, a resident of Agoro village in Amuru district was found guilty of defiling his 5 year-old niece.

Court presided over by Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi heard that Ocan was caught red handed defiling the under age.

Ocan who changed his mind and entered a guilty after he denied the charges is alleged to have defiled the young girl while the grandmother who looked after the victim was away.

It is alleged that two of Ocan’s friends identified as Simon Okot and David Toorach caught the accused laying near the victim and seeing the duo, he accused them for interrupting his pleasure with the young girl before a used condom fell from his manhood.

The prosecution told court that the accused committed the offence on 23rd January 2012 after luring the girl with two hundred shillings.

Court heard that results from a hospital examination showed that the girl was involved in penetrative sexual intercourse.

The judge ruled that evidence provided by the witnesses was sufficient enough to implicate the accused.

The judge said that the sentence will act as a deterrent and save young girls from horrendous sexual acts and will also serve as a deterrent to men who intend to commit such crimes that affect the rights of girls which is under threat.
