Nwoya Discourages Animal Rearing Projects under NUSAF

Nwoya District Local Government Officials are discouraging the community from writing projects that are geared towards animal rearing.

This follows reports that some beneficiaries are selling the animals that were handed to them under the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund II (NUSAF II) program.

Patrick Okello Oryema, the LCV Chairman for Nwoya explained that the district is discouraging such projects because of the fear that some individuals might slaughter their animals for funeral rites and other festivals.

Okello Oryema added that they are instead advising communities to ask for funds to support sub projects such as bridges, community roads and structures which are long lasting and have greater impact on the lives.

Local leaders are battling with errant beneficiaries who are abusing the project either by selling their animals or squandering funds meant to fund the project.

The government has released UGX 48.5 billion under the NUSAF II to fund about 3,764 sub-projects to boost communities’ efforts to improve household incomes.

The NUSAF II program is a government program funded by the World Bank intended to improve household incomes especially in areas which suffered during the insurgency in order to match their economic development to that of other regions.
