Gulu Hospital Administrator Refutes Allegations Of Misappropriation of Funds

The Administrator of Gulu Regional Referral Hospital has refuted allegations that funds allocated for the construction of the new out patients department, had been misappropriated.

Mr Wagubi Cosmas Kirenda said that those spreading the allegations are bent on causing division and intrigue among hospital staff, patients and district officials.

“When government sometimes sends funds, we sit down and decide on which projects to implement depending on the funds received,” he said.

Kirenda added that the current out patients unit is dilapidated and its renovation and expansion is of top priority to the hospital management, however the money allocated is not enough and therefore the need for more funds is urgent.

The construction which is being carried out by Block Technical Services is being funded by the central government in the amount of Ushs313 million and will have the capacity to accommodate more beds, an expanded causality wing and a resting place for patients.

He also revealed plans of constructing a modern emergency unit which will be erected on the land that is currently being occupied by Gulu Central Police station.

“After this completion in two months time, we are going to embark on the finishing of the administration storage building and renovate the staff quarters; only that we are being derailed by manner which the money is being released by the government,” he said.

Gulu main referral hospital was constructed around 1934 and receives about 580 out patients on a daily basis; over 175,769 patients were recorded in the last financial year.
