Our Meeting With President Museveni Was Misrepresented By Media

In the article “Museveni, Acholi leaders’ meet over Amuru land flops again” in the Daily Monitor of May 2, the reporter strove to misrepresent the Acholi leaders’ visits to Kalangala and Kakira, and their meeting with President Museveni. From April 26 to 29, I led the team of Acholi leaders on the above visit at the request of President Museveni. At the end of our field visits, we unanimously agreed on a resolution that was signed on our behalf by Mr Ojara Mapenduzi the LC 5 chairperson Gulu District, Sheik Musa Khilil, ag. chairperson Acholi Religious Leaders’ Peace Initiative, Rwot Peter Oola Ojigi of Ker Kwaro Acholi, and Mr Semei Okwir, RDC Nwoya District.

The resolution essentially thanked Mr Ochula, other litigants and some leaders who, led by minister Betty Bigome, have been negotiating with the government over Amuru land; and also thanked the government for agreeing to compensate all affected people and allot shares in ASW for the locals. The resolution further urged that the negotiation covers all community interests, including resettling affected households, project-based government-funded out grower schemes, building of critical infrastructure in the project area, and general support for agricultural development in Acholi; and also asked Acholi leaders to unite so that the project could start within the next three months.

The hunt for Africa’s last warlord

Shortly after dawn last Dec. 14, four Ugandan Mi-24 helicopters banked low over the thick forest canopy of Congo's Garamba National Park. A dense fog had rolled in overnight, and the weather had turned nasty. Earlier that morning at a forward staging area in Uganda, a team of American military advisers equipped with large-scale U.S. government maps and Google Earth technology had shown the helicopter pilots what to look for—four distinct "fishhook shape" camps spread out in cleared areas of the park. In one of these camps, they believed, was Joseph Kony, who leads Africa's longest-lived insurgent group, the Lord's Resistance Army. Find Kony, the pilots' commander had said, and kill him.

Statement By Active Blessing Uganda Over Allegations Of Mistreatment Of Children And Child Trafficking In Kitgum

In the recent past we have had news in the print media and one fm radio station connecting Active Blessing Uganda to the mistreatment of children and child trafficking.

Active Blessing Uganda refutes these allegations in the strongest terms and wants to make it clear to the general public and our donors that we would never allow such a situation to arise within the organisation and have in place the necessary safeguards to ensure that the interest of street and abandoned children, in our care, is protected and came first.

The US State Department’s War Crimes Rewards Program takes on a new life

US President Barrack Obama signed off on a law last January offering millions of dollars in rewards for information leading to the arrest, capture, or transfer of certain fugitives, such as those sought for certain horrendous large-scale crimes by international, mixed, and hybrid tribunals, including “new mixed courts that may be established in places such as the Democratic Republic of Congo or for Syria.”

In accordance with the legislative expansion, US Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Stephen J. Rapp announced in April the decision by US authorities to place a veritable bounty on the heads of a small handful of accused war criminals long sought by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
