Norbert Mao, the Democratic Party (DP), President has registered as a voter in the new Omoro District.
The DP has also fielded, Grace Pamela Lanyero as candidate for the Omoro woman member of parliament.
Mao has previously registered and voted at Holy Rosary Polling Station in Laroo Division, Gulu municipality.
On Friday last week, accompanied by DP leaders from Gulu and Omoro district, Mao nominated Grace Pamela Lanyero as the official DP flagbearer for the race for Omoro District Woman MP.
His nomination for Lanyero was seconded by Jolly Grace Okot Adruvulle, another voter from Omoro District.
The DP leader identified himself as voter from St Paul Primary School- Labongologo, Lapainat East, in Omoro District. Lapainat East is one of the parishes in Koro Sub County, in the newly created Omoro district. Mao handed over his National ID card to the EC officials at the nomination desk who verified and handed it over to him.
Denis Ebong, the EC District Registrar for Omoro confirmed on Monday that Mao is a registered voter. Mao also confirmed Monday that indeed he is a registered voter.
In December 2, last year, Mao presented himself for nomination as a candidate for the Gulu Municipality MP seat. However, Benson Obete, the EC District Returning Officer for Gulu declined to nominate him on grounds that his name was not found on the National Voters Register, which is a requirement for nomination under Section 4 (1) (b) of the Parliamentary Elections Act of 2005 (as amended). The section states that; A person is qualified to be a member of Parliament if that person (b) is a registered voter.
Obete accordingly declined to nominate Mao as the DP leader could not identify himself as a bona fide Ugandan.
Mao did not vote in the elections early this year.
Mao, who has twice been elected as Gulu Municipality MP and once the LC5 chairperson of the same district, also participated as a presidential candidate in 2011.
