Three police officers from Agago district have arrested and detained after a woman who is suspected to have killed her own daughter escaped from a police cell.

Gloria Akullu escaped on July 28, after she was suspected to have poisoned and killed her 5-year-old. Police suspects she killed her daughter because her father was no longer supportive.

Akulu is a resident of Obulu Omogo village, Got Omor in Agago district.

The incident occurred on July 21, and the suspect was arrested the following day.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson said at a media briefing on Monday that the officers who were on duty when Akullu escaped have been arrested.

The police spokesman named the police officers as Kennedy Ali, Mohamad Cerok and Santo Okello.

They are currently being held at Agago Central Police Station. Okema said the trio have been tasked to explain to their superior how Akullu managed to escape from police custody.

The matter was aggravated by the fact that the girl was a disabled child.

Meanwhile a man identified as Richard Onen has been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of his 7-year-old son.

Onen, a construction worker in Agwee in Laroo division, an outskirt of Gulu town is suspected to have murdered his son, Brian Rwotwero who was found dead on Friday last week.

Police suspects that the motive of the murder could be a child sacrifice.

Postmortem report indicate that the boy died after the attacker used a blunt object to hit his head resulting into damage of the brain tissue leading to his death.
