Denis Moro Padano, one of the 12 Ugandan soldiers killed in an Al- Shabaab ambush in Somalia on Sunday is reportedly from Corner Kilak in Pader district, according to accounts on social media.

‘‘It’s so sad and deeply painful to accept that this young soul Denis Moro Padano was among our gallant UPDF killed in Somalia. My sincere condolences to the people of Corner Kilak, Pader Sub-county,’’ posted a Facebook user named Andrew Onyuk.

Onyuk who says he is from the same village as the Denis Moro Pondano told this reporter by telephone that they got information about the death of the Denis Moro Padano through contacts in Somalia and that preparations are underway to receive his body from the UPDF for burial.

When contacted for comment, the 4th Division army spokesman Capt Lawrence Dragga said he was still waiting for official communication from the army headquarters on the identification of the 12 soldiers who lost their lives in the Shabaab ambush.

Ugandan soldiers in Somalia are serving under the auspices of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISON).

It is not yet confirmed by the army as to which parts of the country the 12 soldiers who lost their lives come from.

The army in a statement on Monday acknowledges that 12 soldiers had been killed and seven soldiers were injured, the army statement said.

Uganda is the biggest contributor to AMISON  troops in Somalia with a contingent of 6,223 troops followed by Burundi with 5,432.
