Three people were on Wednesday last week struck dead by lighting in Agago district.

The victims, residents of Lamit Central Village, Kuywee Sub County, included two children and a 30-year-old man who was grazing cattle.

The incident happened at about 15:30pm during a heavy downpour.

Ben Moses Ocan, the Local Council Three Chairperson Kuywee Sub County said the victims had sought shelter under a tree when lightning struck.

Their bodies were picked and buried on Thursday.

The case has been registered at Kalongo Police Station under SD reference number 03/25/11/2021.

Lightning is an occurrence of a natural electrical discharge and high voltage between a cloud and the ground or within a cloud, accompanied by a bright flash and thunder.

In northern Uganda, the majority of families live in grass-thatched houses which have no protective mechanism such as lightning arrestors to protect occupants from such eventualities.
