Preparations are in high gear at the Diocese of Northern Uganda for the consecration and installation of the new Bishop, Reverend Godfrey Loum.

Reverend Loum will become the 8th Bishop of the Diocese of Northern Uganda. He will replace Bishop Johnson Gakumba. Loum, the former Vicar of Christ Church parish in Gulu City was elected Bishop in October.

The consecration and installation of the new Anglican Bishop are set for Sunday, November 21, 2021 at St Phillips Cathedral in Bar-Dege-Layibi in Gulu City.

His election was challenged in court but the church later reached an out-of-court settlement with the aggrieved members of the laity.

The news of the consecration has excited Christians in the Diocese.

Born on October 4, 1972, Loum comes from a humble background. He has previously revealed that he had troubled past and at one point was an alcohol addict. He was raised by peasant parents in Bungatira Sub County in Gulu district, 10 kilometers from Gulu main town. He served as a librarian with Gulu Municipal Council.

Rev Luwum went to Bungatira Central Primary School for early education and St Joseph’s College-Layibi, Sir Samuel Baker School, and Comboni College for his secondary education. He later joined Uganda Christian University Mukono where he graduated with Bachelor in Divinity.
