At least 13 men were allegedly murdered by their partners in the last three months in Acholi sub-region, according to latest crime statistics from the police.

Police linked the murders to domestic violence.

The incidents were registered from the eight districts of Acholi.

The latest victim has been identified as Bosco Ochen, a resident of Pakuma village, Pabbo Sub County in Amuru district.

Ochen died from St Mary’s Hospital Lacor Gulu on November 26, 2021, after he was reportedly assaulted by his wife.

According to police, the victim was allegedly attacked by Janet Acayo on November 23, 2021.It is however not clear what sparked the fight that resulted into loss of life. The suspect was arrested, pending an investigation into the incident.

Andrew Opiyo, the Aswa River Region Police Community Laison Officer said during the same period, a woman was also murdered by her partner.

Mr Opiyo noted that the high number of men falling victim to domestic violence is due to fear. He explained that men are unwilling to come out to talk openly about mistreatment in the hands of their wives for fear of of being ridiculed by society. The police officer said the has emboldened perpetrators, in some cases, resulting in death.

In 2020, a total of 59 people were killed in Acholi sub region as a result of domestic violence. Amuru District registered the highest number of cases at 22, followed by Kitgum at 11 cases.
