President Yoweri Museveni has said Richard Todwong, the deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) is among the young blood he has been mentoring and monitoring for some time.

He said other people had become too old to run around hence fresh blood like Todwong had to be brought in.

The president who was speaking during a thanks giving party for Mr Todwong being appointed deputy Secretary general of the NRM party held at Anaka in Nwoya said he and others are now too old and need to rest while the young blood should be the ones running around.

The president said the party changed the NRM constitution because he wanted fresh blood like Todwong to be appointed adding that he has confidence that the MP for Nwoya will deliver.

“We wanted full time people at the secretariat not part timers who felt big but were too old to run errands for the party,” He said.

Ms Justine Lumumba the secretary general of NRM said the president told her that he had won all his battles and that if they fail to deliver he will correct them and they must not play around.

Meanwhile, the Acholi Paramount chief, Rwot David Onen Acana II, who also attended the event asked Mr Todwong to work well with all other tribes in handling national issues and observed that his appointment indicates the trust and confidence the president has in people from Northern Uganda.

The paramount chief gave Todwong a Drum, spear and shield as a symbol of authority.

Todwong in his speech declared, “I will not contest for the Nwoya MP Seat come 2016 but I urge you my people to elect an NRM MP so that all the work I have done as Member of Parliament does not go to waste.”

He promised the president that he will deliver on his duties.
