UN agency, UNFPA has procured a brand-new ambulance for Omoro District Health Department.
The Toyota Land Cruiser Registration Number LG 0050 155 valued at 300 Million Shillings was received by Nicholas Ogwang, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Omoro District on Tuesday.
Jackline Chebet, the Omoro District Communication Officer said the district has been operating without an ambulance for the last two years. Chebet noted that the lack of an ambulance has been an obstacle in handling referral cases.
In March 2019, a former driver attached to Omoro district health department found himself in trouble for turning an ambulance into a truck for ferrying bricks to a construction site.
Goddy Otto was caught on camera transporting bricks to Lapinyoloyo village in Koro Sub County, Omoro district, where he was constructing a semi-permanent house.
The ambulance was the only one in good working condition, serving a population of 130,000, and the only one being used then for referrals of emergency cases majorly to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital Lacor, about 40 miles west of Omoro district.
