An angry mob on Wednesday night lynched a 23- year-old man who had been terrorizing residents of Angom village, Otwal Sub County in Oyam district.

Police identified the deceased as Mr Denis Ogwal, a notorious thief who has been in and out of prison.

Mr Mansur Suwed, the North Kiyoga Police spokesperson confirmed the incident and said Ogwal was killed at 10PM At Ade Trading Center in Oyam district.

Suwed alleged that on Monday last week, Ogwal stole a gun belonging to the officer in charge of Otwal Police Outpost before going on rampage.

Suwed said on the day that preceded Monday, Ogwal fired two bullets before robbing a red bajaj motorbike registration No. UAE 790V at gunpoint.

Suwed adds that, “Ogwal’s luck ran out on Wednesday night after the stolen bike he was riding ran out fuel.”

He explained that as Ogwal attempted to refuel the motorbike by force at a local shop, the shop’s owner made an alarm attracting residents who came and lynched him after grabbing the police gun he allegedly stole.

Police say after he was overpowered, shot on the hand before his head was smashed with a stone.

Ogwal who was released a week ago on police bond was also facing charges of theft and burglary after he allegedly broke into a house and stole clothes.

Police has so far recovered the stolen gun and motorbike.

On Thursday, his body was transported using a police vehicle to his ancestral home in Chegere, Apac district for burial.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Okwir Charles, the former OC Otwal Police Outpost has been put on forced leave after he lost the gun and is facing a charge of for gross negligence.

He has so far been replaced by Mr Augustine Odwong, as the new OC Police Outpost.
