Gulu Woman Member of Parliament, Ms Aol Betty Ochan has said President Yoweri Museveni undermined her when he referred to her as a girl during the Tuesday commissioning of Gulu-Ataik road in Gulu municipality.

Aol said she was forcefully evicted from the program line up of people to make speeches on the day and yet she was slated to speak as the area member of parliament.

The legislator said she wanted to tell the president about many issues including the demands of the people who want Gulu to become a city among other issues related to the plight of war affected women who came back with children from the bush and have nobody to support them.

“With great honor to the president, I am not a young girl and I was dressed decently in a Gomesi so the president should learn to call me ‘mego’ because that is what the people of Gulu call me,” She said.

Aol said that when the president is in her constituency she should be allowed to present her people’s issues to him since the president does not sit in Parliament.

However, while addressing the members during the gathering on Tuesday ,the president told the people not to vote the “Young girl at the tent’ until she cross to NRM because most opposition members in Northern Uganda including Gilbert Olanya of Kilaka County are people who oppose development giving the example of Amuru sugar works.

However, Olanya said he is never against development except the way it is being forced on the local people.

He said it being done without their involvement is what makes him demobilize the locals against such development by government.
