Ms Irene Abalo, 23, a resident of Pece division in Gulu Municipality is nursing  severe multiple head injuries she sustained after suspected iron bar hitmen attacked her on Monday morning.

The incident happened at about 6:oo am at Pece Primary school as the victim was headed to work at Churchill court Hotel in Gulu town.

Ms Abalo who was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood was later rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition by Police.

Speaking on Tuesday from her hospital bed, Ms Abalo said before being hit, she saw a man follow her but did not suspect that had intentions of hitting her.

“I have no memory of what happened, how they hit me and what could have been done to me. I woke up from the Hospital emergency unit ward where I was rushed,”

“I feel great pain on my head, neck and chest, she added.

Dr Morris Ojara, who attended to Ms Abalo said the victim suffered multiple head injuries but noted that they managed to stabilize and get her out of coma.

“We are yet investigating more on her condition to rule out fractures to the head and neck. However at the moment she is in stable condition and is able to speak,”

OC Crime, Gulu central Police station, Mr James Asubu, confirmed to Acholi Times of the incident adding that police found the Ms Abalo lying unconscious by the road side.

“We suspect that the victim was hit at about 6 am, our Police officers visited the scene of crime and recovered a blood stained hammer and a knife,”

He said the assailant could have only used the harmer to hit the victim since the injury inflicted doesn’t show signs of any other weapon was used.

“We want to caution women against lone night and early movement as majority of people being hit are female. We have also stepped up our patrols in a bid to counter the assailants and guarantee security,” says Mr Asubu.

Mr Tonny Opira a resident of Pece however faulted police on security of the area arguing that police don’t patrol the area that has since left it a haven for thugs.

He asked for Police to be deployed to help guarantee safety of residents.

Last week, Ms Alice Akot, a health worker working with Reproductive

Health Uganda was clobbered by iron bar men in Kirombe village in Layibi division, Gulu Municipality.
