Top leaders in Gulu Municipality are being accused of masterminding the delayed relocation of Gulu Main Market vendors to the newly reconstructed market with an aim of allocation stalls to themselves.

According to sources among the vendors, Gulu municipal officials like Laroo Assistant -clerk Mr Oloya Gilbert, Gulu municipal mayor, Mr George Labeja, Mr Francis Barabanawe  the Town clerk are among the people who are alleged to be using different names to see that they first allocate the market stall for themselves.

The source also alleged that it is the reason why the vendors have not yet been transferred to the new site even after the president commissioned the multi-billion facility in April this year.

However, when contacted by Acholi times, Mr Opiyo Gilbert, the Laroo assistant Town clerk denied the allegation saying that they are not among the allocation committee and that there is no way they can allocate stalls for themselves .

“How can we allocate stalls for ourselves when we are not in the allocation committee those are rumors you should not believe in,” Mr Opiyo said.

He also explained that the vendors are not yet been transferred to the main market because they wanted to sort out the allocation of stalls so that the confusion experienced in Lira doesn’t happen in Gulu.

Laroo division LC3 Chairperson Mr Abonga Moses told this reporter that he had warned his councilors to stay away from anything to do with Gulu main market because many Gulu municipal officials have interest in the whole process of transferring the vendors to the main site since the commissioning.

However, according to an exclusive seen by this reporter, the Municipal Education Officer Mr Acire Jose Jolly, lands supervisor Ms Oyella Agnes and Laroo division assistant Town clerk Mr Oloya Gilbert are in the allocation committee.

Mr Opiyo Geoffrey Obama, the chairperson of the vendors told Acholi times tht he was going to confirm the allegations.
