The Acholi Paramount chief, Rwot David Onen Acana II has called on the Acholi people to start thinking about an acholi Agenda that will guide everybody including politicians and in influential position to prioritize issues affecting the region.

Rwot Acana said other sub regions have their agenda to show and there is need for the Acholi to have their own unifying agenda which everybody should be a part of.

“We have just been doing our own things where Politician do their own things, religious leaders do their own things as well as us chiefs doing our own things but this time we need to unite and have a stronger Acholi agenda that will unite us,” Rwot Acana said.

Acana also noted that the creation of districts and constituencies should not divide the Acholi people.

“Let the people who qualify from Pader work in Gulu and those who qualify in that particular job from Nwoya get the same opportunity in Amuru,” Rwort Acana said.

He said on many occasions even in job line, people from other districts are being denied opportunities.

Rwot Acana was speaking during the thanks giving mass for Mr Hillary Onek, the Lamwo County Member of Parliament held last Saturday in Lamwo district

President Yoweri Museveni who was expected to be the chief guest but did not turn up, pledged a tractor and 400 iron sheets to Palabek secondary school in Lamwo district.

The pledge was made on his behalf  by Minister of Justice and constitutional affairs Gen. Kahinda Otafire Kahanda who represented him during the commissioning of a classroom block and science Laboratory constructed by the  Family of Mr Onek.

Otafire said the 400 iron sheets will go towards the construction of the staff house at the school and that the president has also pledged to fully equip the science laboratory.

Mr Kalista Nyeko, the head teacher of the school said they have about 448 students in the school with 11 teachers on Government pay roll and nine being paid by Parents through the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) funds.

He noted that the issues of houses for teachers is a Major challenge

He also said they will use the tractor to farm about 30 hectares of land that the school has so that they can feed the students.

Lamwo MP Onek said his family donated about Shs80 million to the construction project at the school because he values Education.

The 1st agenda should be fostering unity by reclaiming, restoring, promoting and maintaining Acoli culture: luo language, writing, songs, dances, ododo, koc, agriculture, food, hunting, cupo lawala, etc. This is broad, but to say the least: Let there be yearly competition which begin by Rwot leading people to hunt for one week and bring the kills for feast and celebration during which people compete in Acoli poems, songs, playing instruments, etc. Rwot can ask the Acoli diaspora to send in advance, different gifts for the different winners, in different activities.

Defend Acoli Land in the first place Rwot Acana, then the rest may follow suit. What have you got to say about Apaa land as the paramount chief of Acoli.
