A senior police Officer has been detained in Gulu over allegations of indiscipline.

Acholi Times understands that Omara Joel, an Assistant Inspector of Police attached to the Police professional standard unit at Aswa regional Police headquarter was detained on Saturday.

Omara is alleged to have conducted himself in a manner that discredits the police.

“It is true he is being detained but the reason is not very clear,’’ said a police source who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media.

Kwanya Wilson, the Aswa regional Police commander confirmed that Omara has been detained but did not divulge the reasons for his arrest.

Kwanya said the police is investigating him for the unnamed offence.

“We detained him because he behaved in a manner which discredits the name of the force which is an offence in the police act called discreditable conduct. We are investigating him,’’ Kwanya said.

Kwanya also explained that Omara could face the civil courts if the police cannot hold him to account under the police act.

‘‘If the facts are confirmed and the file is perused through by the Resident State Attorney, we shall see the direction it [Omara’s case] shall take.’’
