Gulu district Chairman Martin Ojara Mapenduzi. He is set to lose 10 councillors to Omoro.

Gulu district is set to lose 10 elected LCV councilors to Omoro when the new district becomes operational on July 1st this year.

This development means Gulu will remain with 22 councilors including from the four divisions in Gulu municipality.

Omoro which was curved out of Gulu will have six sub- counties; Odek, Lalogi, Lakwana, Ongako, Koro and Bobi. All the newly elected councilors elected in the recent election from these sub counties will automatically become councilors elect of the Omoro district council.

Okello Douglas Peter Okao, Gulu district speaker confirmed the development but said that all the councilors will be sworn under Gulu district between 23 -27 May before relocating to Omoro.

Mr Okello himself is one of the councilors slated to cross to Omoro and is reported to be among those eyeing the district chairmanship of the new district.

Gulu District Local Council on the 1st April passed a proposed budget estimates of 16.2 billion shillings for Omoro for the the new financial year 2016/2017.
