Security officials say a total of twelve (12) suspects have been picked up in and around Gulu in connection with the two daring raids on security installations in the district.

The men are being questioned by both police and army intelligence officers on their alleged participation in the assaults which left dead three security personnel and a 5-year-old children.

Capt Santo Okot Lapolo, the Gulu Resident District Commissioner (RDC) on Thursday released names of suspects he said were allegedly responsible for the attacks on Opit army detach and Gulu Central Police.

Speaking over a local radio on Thursday, Lapolo revealed that all who have been arrested are from Acholi sub region.

Capt Lapolo who also doubles as the Chairperson Gulu  district security identified the suspects as; Kenneth Otto, Sam Obama Ojok, Eng Openyjuru Howard and Richard Okech.

Others are Ocan Abdul Malik Mwoka alias Ojuku, Geoffrey Komakech alias KK, Alfred Odongpiny, Lukwiya Macknokonic, Felix Oluge, Job Odong and David Opiro.

Lapolo also says Dan Oola Odiya, the deputy National Secretary for Mobilization Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) is among the 12 suspects arrested and detained.

Odiya who faces five charges including two counts of murder, attempted murder and concealment of information among others in connection with his alleged participation on Opit army detach is expected to reappear on June 29, before Gulu Grade Magistrate for the mention of his case.

The RDC says there are still hunting for more suspects who are believed to have carried out the attacks.

He said he believes that all the guns including the two which are still missing will be recovered saying Uganda is too small for one to hide for long.

No further details or motive of the attacks were given as security officials’ trade their words carefully.

According to the army, one of the attackers was a former LRA fighter who had been demobilized and reintegrated into the community.

Capt Michael Ayaka, the 4th Division Army Headquarters Intelligence Officer (IO) who accompanied the RDC to the radio declined to give any details.

The only thing the Acholi should fight for is the PEACE. Do not allow us to be used by outsiders for their political and financial ends like they did since independence.I am not preaching division but: Whereas Lango received LIRA SPINNING MILL, STARCH etc, what did Acholi get? Forget the Game Park, that is God’s gift. How many Acholis were killed under Amin, fighting to defeat Amin, fighting NRM etc.
THE ONLY FIGHT WE WILL FIGHT WILL BE TO FULLY LIBERATE OURSELVES from FOREIGN domination and oppression.

Apart from our cousin / brothers in Bunyoror who accommodated us (Byale) where else did we Acholi get refuge from the IDP camps. now every body is trying to come, calling us friend, friend. Pay respect to Bunyoro KING please!! I will fight to reconcile with our Neighbous the Madi, Alur, Lugbara, Kakwa, Teso, Lango and Teso FIRST.

The name UGANDA should not be allowed to be used to INCLUDE us in other people’s schemes.

Let those who brought M7 and NRM to power fight and overthrow him if they now realize their mistakes. LEAVE Acholi alone from the KIGEZI-BKIGA-BANYANGKOLE-BAGANDA intrigues. Please LEAVE Acholi out of this . we have enough land and oil to feedo urselves .

Personally, I take issue with this RDC, an Acholi, who seems so loud as he stupidly names the so called suspects, all of who are Acholi kids, presumably sacrificing for the liberation of our people from the bondage of suppression. I hope he remembers to follow Museveni as and when he leaves.
