The army said yesterday it had killed unidentified attacker in a gun fight in Koboko district in West Nile region.

The attackers armed with rifles, are believed to have come from Eastern Equatorial in volatile South Sudan. They are thought to have crossed river Kaya in Guvula sub county Koboko district on Monday afternoon.

Lt Hassan Ahmed Kato, the 4th Division Army spokesman told the media in Gulu that the attackers were engaged by the UPDF on entering Uganda. One attacker was killed, a rifle and 14 rounds of ammunition was recovered. The rest of the attackers, suspected to be three, took off.

The army publicist said the army is investigating the identity of the attackers.

In May this year, at least 20 local residents were abducted in Koboko by unknown group of armed men. A series of similar attacks have in the past also been registered in Lamwo, Kabong and Kitgum districts.
