Martin Okoyo the Gulu District Police Commander. The father of the deceased has asked police to investigate the cause of his son’s death.

A 17-year-old senior four student of Gulu Army Secondary School has died of injuries sustained after a Saturday night attack by suspected iron hit men.

Richard Oryema died at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital 1am on Tuesday morning. Oryema was in put in the intensive care unit until his passing on.

At the time of his death, the family of the deceased was struggling to get an ambulance to take him to a better medical facility in Kampala. Doctors had, however, advised that the condition of the deceased first stabilizes before him being transferred Kampala.

Oryema was found unconscious at Boma grounds, just 300 meters north of Gulu Central Police Station on Sunday morning. He was taken to Gulu Regional Hospital Mortuary where he spent four hours until he was found to be alive.

There was suspicion that the deceased could have been a suspect thief beaten by people he tried to rob. The father of the deceased Simon Peter Ocan said suspicion that his son could have been a thieve delayed the deceased from getting medical treatment.

A distraught Mr Ocan said the last time his son was seen alive was at around 5 pm on Sunday at Kony Paco.

He asked police to investigate the cause of his son’s death.

Oryema was found with a deep cut on his head.

A medical report indicated that the deceased was hit by a blunt object which could have affected his skull and the brain.
