Police in Amuru district have arrested one of their own after he was found in possession of a gun suspected to have been stolen.

Peter Oola, a police officer number 52345 and attached to Field Force Unit (FFU) in Kampala was arrested on November 10 from Amuru district as he tried to board a Kampala bound truck.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) confirmed the arrest on Monday during a press briefing in Gulu town and said they found a gun  with nine (9) rounds of live bullets in the home of Oola.

Okema said the gun an AK 47 number UGPSO, 3200865- 04 360 was found in one of the houses belonging to Oola.

Police believe that the gun was the one robbed from a guard attached to Saracen who was deployed at Nkrumah road in Kampala.

Okema explained that after the police mounted a search at the suspect’s home in Kal Laraba village, Atiak Sub County also in Amuru district on November 6, apart from the gun, they  also found a police uniform and two  police caps.

The police spokesman revealed that police were monitoring the movement of Oola after his father-in-law complained that the suspect had threatened to harm him.

According to police, Oola will be transferred to Kireka, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Monday for questioning on how he obtained the suspected stolen gun and  his motive of keeping it at his home.
