Police in Pader district are holding a teacher of Paiwula Primary School for allegedly failing to administer end of term three exams to his pupil after a three  day drinking spree at a local bar.

The teacher has been identified as Charles Omony. A case against him has been reported to police under SD 18/30/11/2016 at Pajule Police Post.

Omony was last week arrested by the Pajule Sub County LC 3 Chairperson, Brilliant Tito Okello on after parents raised complaints against him.

Mr Okello said Omony had  been missing at school for three consecutive days prompting parents to raise a complaint against him. Okello said as a result, P3 pupils of Paiwula who Omony teaches did not sit for their P.3 exams.

On arrest, Omony was found drunk.

The teacher is facing charges of neglect of duty and being drunk during working hours. Police   had by end of last week not produced him before court.

Okello, the Pajule LC 3 Chairman said the practice of teachers and even health workers drinking during working hours is common in Pajule at the end of every month [when they get paid]. Okello condemned the practice and said it affects service delivery.

In a similar incident in April this year, Police in Pader arrested two teachers who were found drunk and in possession of crude alcohol during class hours.

The duo, all teachers of Oret Primary School in Oret Parish, Puranga Sub-county were arrested on the orders of Puranga Sub-County chief, Emmanuel Oguti.

In the 2015 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), Pader district got only 30 first grades out of the 107 government aided primary schools.  On the other hand, private schools in the district produced most of the first grades.
