Police in Gulu is holding Alfred Onen Kamdulu, a former LRA Commander for allegedly defiling a 5-year-old girl.

Kamdulu was arrested on January 10, 2017 from Layibi Central subward in Pece division, an outskirt of Gulu town.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the arrest of the former LRA commander and said he is being held at Gulu Central Police Station as investigation into the matter continues.

Okema said that Kamdulu was arrested by the residents of Layibi Central sub ward on Tuesday evening at around 8pm on suspicion that he, Kamdulu, defiled the underage girl.

Kamdulu was briefly detained at Aywee Police Post before being transferred to Gulu Central Police Station.

However by Thursday, neither the alleged defiled girl nor the parents had recorded statements with the police.

Police has tasked the parents of the girl to record statements before the alleged victim is taken for medical examination.

Kamdulu, the former Lord’s Resistance Army operations director was arrested for aggravated robbery in 2007 and has just been released after serving 9 years in jail.

When Onen Kamdulu surrendered to the Uganda government and renounced the rebellion, he and several of his former colleagues were incorporated into the Uganda People’s Defence Forces. Some of them were given roles in intelligence gathering in Northern Uganda.

In 2005, Kamdulu was presented to court as a key witness in a treason case against presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye.
