Four candidates including a Gulu-based pastor have been nominated to contest for the Gulu University guild presidency, according to Simon Bikala, the Gulu University Electoral Commission Returning Officer.

Pastor Okidi who is also gospel artiste is a second year student of Bachelors of Arts with Education.

Others are: Daniel Baziira, a third year student of Medicine & Surgery, Herbert Ageta Okodi and Walter Moses Ojok, all second year students of Business Administration (BBA).

There was no female candidate. This is the fifth time in a row that the guild race has failed to attract a single female candidate since 2012.

Daniel Baziira promised to restore trust in student leadership, something he says is lacking.

All four candidates for the guild presidency were nominated on  Saturday) after fulfilling the necessary requirements which includes 70,000 shillings as nomination fee and another 350,000 shillings for returning  the nomination form which must have at least 100 signatories of voters( registered students).

For one also to be nominated to contest as a Guild President or any other positions, it is a requirement that he or she must not have had any retake (a failure to pass a course unit sat for in a semester).

The office of the University Electoral Commission has banned opinion polls within the main campus in Laroo division, Gulu Municipality unless if it’s done with the permission of the commission.

The students’ community has also been warned against acts of hooliganism, use of abusive languages, tearing and defacing of campaign posters, propaganda and direct confrontation.

Candidates are also banned from campaigning before 8:00 am and after 10:00 pm.

Voting will take place on April 2, after two weeks of campaigns.

The winner will be the 15th Guild President o
f the government institution since its inception in 2002.
