An Adjumani bound bus was on Monday afternoon attacked by a rowdy crowd at Pabbo in Amuru district. Pabbo is located along the Gulu- Nimule high way.

The bus registration number UAW708L belonged to Zawadi, a travel company which has buses that plie the Adjumani- Nimule- Gulu- Kampala high way and vice versa. Zawadi is owned by an Adjumani businessman.

Eyewitnesses say rowdy residents of Pabbo pelted the bus with stones at around 12:20pm on Monday afternoon.

An eyewitness John Bosco Oloya said the mob stood along the road and demanded that passengers get out of the bus for ‘‘verification’’ of their districts of residence.

The incident comes shortly after clashes over a land boundary dispute between the Acholi and Madi community in Apaa, located in Pabbo Sub County, Amuru district.

Oloya told Acholi Times that when the bus stopped the angry mob pelted the bus with stones before the driver sped off towards Attiak, another trading centre located along the Gulu- Nimule road, also in Amuru district. The driver reportedly drove straight to Attiak police post.

Another witness who identified himself only as Oyik said the mirror of the bus was smashed. Oyik added that police and the army where after the incident deployed in Pabbo.

The Aswa region police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the incideng.  Okema said the bus driver drove off when the bus was pelted with stones and took his passengers to Attial police post. Attiak sub county neighbours Adjumani is has a section of residents who are bilingual, speaking both Acholi and Madi.

Okema said no arrest has so far been made after the incident. Police  condemned the attack on the passenger bus.
