Aswa region police spokesman described the action of a police officer fighting a crime preventer as reckless

A crime preventer identified as Peter Oola, 35, attached to Awach Police Post is nursing bruises on the jaw after he lost a tooth in a fight with a police officer.

When they were recruited, crime preventers, the police said would work within their communities to support the police in fighting crime.

Oola alleges that he was assaulted by Robin Oceng, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who is also the in-charge of Awach Police Station.

Trouble on Tuesday when Oola reportedly defied an order by ASP Oceng to shoot anyone who refuses to slash the police station compound. Oola’s failure to respect Oceng’s order led to a physical confrontation between the pair.

In the process, Oceng knocked off one of Oola’s tooth.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson described Oceng’s fight with a crime preventer as reckless and said an investigation has been launched into thte matter.

Okema said Oceng first mounted an illegal road block on the main road and demanded that anyone who is passing should first slash the compound before they can be released.

The police spokesman said Oceng will face both the police disciplinary committee and the courts of law once investigation is complete.

Meanwhile Oola has registered a case of assault against ASP Oceng at Gulu Central Police Station. The police professional standard unit has preferred a case of misconduct against their own—Oceng.
