    One dead in Omoro road accident

    One person was left dead and three others injured a motor accident along the Gulu- Kampala road.

    The Tuesday accident happened at Koro Abili in Koro sub county, Omoro district about about 10kms away from Gulu town.

    The accident involved a Toyota Hilux pickup registration number UG 2031S belonging to the Ministry of Water and Sanitation and a Boda boda rider with motorcycle registration number UEK 976M. The rider had three passengers.

    The ministry of water and sanitation vehicle was enroute to Kampala, and was reportedly moving at high speed, according to witnesses.

    The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the incident in a statement to journalists yesterday.

    The police spokesman identified the Boda Boda rider as Alfred Opio Alfred who passed on while being rushed to Gulu Regional referral Hospital.

    And the injured were: Stella Ajok Stella 30 , her two children  Tracy Adoch 5 and Prisca Lanyero 4. All are receiving treatment at Gulu hospital.

    ick Up identified as Francis Tumwebaze has been arrested and being detained at Bobi Police Station, according to police.

    Resident protest

    Shortly after the accident, hundreds of aggrieved residents of Koro Abili locked the Gulu-Kampala highway using logs, stones while others sat on tarmac, momentarily interrupting the flow of traffic.

    The angry residents were calmed by Omoro District LCV Chairperson Douglas Peter Okao who convinced the resident to abandon the protest.

    This is the third accident to have claimed lives of motorcyclists in Koro Abili alone since the New Year, according to statistics from the police.
